Archer Guitars of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, is developing a new, custom signature electric bass with artist Kasim Sulton. Slated for a fall worldwide debut, a prototype of the upcoming K Sulton Signature Bass will accompany Kasim as he heads out on an 18-date European tour and late summer U.S. shows with Meat Loaf. He will be playing the prototype at all of these shows.
Archer has also launched a "Road Test" website at www.ksultonbass.com, which provides a behind-the-scenes view of the tour. Musicians and fans can track the day-to-day performance of the K Sulton Signature Bass as it is perfected before being made available to the public.
This "Road Test" site will include Kasim Sulton's day-to-day critique of the bass and will follow Archer's immediate response to Kasim's suggestions for alterations needed to fine-tune the bass as it evolves. Sulton will be receiving several upgraded prototypes of the K Sulton Signature Bass as the tour progresses. The "Road Test" link will also feature K Sulton Signature Bass information, Meat Loaf's tour itinerary, tour photos, performance notes, a Kasim Sulton travelogue blog, interviews, Kasim's bio and discography, and cool links to other related sites.
"I have known Kasim for many years. He has performed in any number of bands which I had booked through various organizations I worked with, in bands like Hall and Oates, Todd Rundgren, Utopia and Meat Loaf, along with his solo efforts," says Michael Houser, CEO of Archer Guitars, USA. "We began working on the 'K-Bass' project about 14 months ago, with the purpose of creating a true artist-designed guitar, 'field-tested' in both the studio and on the road. Kasim is the perfect artist to work with, as he has performed on almost 200 albums with sales in excess of 50 million units, making him certainly, very credible. Along with his reputation is his passion for music, and for this instrument. We wanted to create, together, a very solid, well-thought out bass, of artist and studio quality at an affordable price, and I think we're doing just that."
Houser continues, "Having Kasim's direct, daily involvement with his Archer K Sulton bass made the concept and project come to life, as we move toward the final production stage. He will road-test this product throughout both the European and US Meat Loaf tour, and when the final modifications are made on this prototype, we will move to manufacturing."
A highly coveted sideman, Sulton is recognized and respected the world over for his work with other artists, including nine major releases with Todd Rundgren and Utopia, as well as Meat Loaf, Cherry Vanilla, Indigo Girls, Joan Jett, Hall & Oates, Patti Smith, Patty Smyth, Mick Jagger, and Celine Dion to name just a few. His level of involvement has ranged from playing bass, keyboards, and/or guitar, to adding vocal harmonies, singing lead, and contributing as a songwriter, to producing entire albums, as he did with the Meat Loaf VH-1 Storytellers CD, released in 1999. He's released three solos albums including his 2002 release, "Quid Pro Quo." These days Sulton continues to tour with Todd Rundgren and serves as Music Director/Bassist/Vocalist with Meat Loaf. He also appears regularily on Broadway in Billy Joel's hit musical, "Movin' Out."
