"Thought 13" by Andrea Menafra

The idea about recording 'Thoughts', my last CD in solo guitar, cames from years of practicing and performing improvisation, both in jazz and contemporary music.

The idea about recording "Thoughts", my last CD in solo guitar, cames from years of practicing and performing improvisation, both in jazz and contemporary music.

From a technical point of view, the starting input was buying an I-Mac with a M-audio 1814 firewire audio interface, installing all the stuff in my home studio and checking if all was right.

What I love in this situation is the very intimate feel you can get in your room, and the freedom to have no time countdown because of your budget.

Thinks was all right, Logic Express 7 software opened, so I plugged directly my Gibson 175 in M-audio input and started playing.

Just begin with a mood in my mind, no chord progression, no written melodies; only trying to develop a shape of tension and resolution in my improvised tunes.

From the first session I had about one hour of music, so decided to have another session on the next day. At that time I had no idea about producing a record with solo guitar improvisation, I was doing all the things just to check if the stuff I buyed was working well!!Now let's go to editing process: the guitar was recorded clean in an audio track, with no effects even in hear monitors. In a second step a bus track was created with Logic plug-in, using a little of chorus, a stereo delay and a reverb. Finally the mix was done balancing the clean, nude track with the bus one.

All the tracks was recorded with the spirit of creativity in front of my eyes.

I hope you enjoy it.Andrea Menafra
